Genesis 1 & 2

Watched a show on the History Channel lat night about Genesis in the Bible. It mostly covered chapters 1 and 2. Why is it that the stuff I write about seems to covered on TV, but doesn’t really get any response in here? Do not any of you out there watch these kind of shows on the History Channel? If the subject of religion is good enough to be questionedon TV, why not here? Oh well, to the subject at hand.

The biggest thing about last nights was why are chapter 1 and 2 telling a different story about the time line of creation? And why is it that people who believe the story do not have a problem with the two different stories? Can’t say I heard a good answer from the people who gave their ideas about it. So was man made on the 6th day after all the rest was done, or were all the things alive made after Adam was made? The Bible says both happened, but which is it? It has to be one way or the other. And just when was Eve created? Also on the 6th day with Adam or later as an after thought? Why create male and female animals but not a female human? Wouldn’t Adam have gotten horny watching all the animals mating and him with the equipment to mate but no female to mate with? No wonder he got lonely.

The idea was put forth that Eve was the second human female made. Seeing how god created male and female humans at the same time in chapter 1 and her name was Lilith. I love the way people always try to make things up to fit the need for things to make sense. But I do not understand how when face with truth, people still refuse to change their minds. When faced with contradictions that cancel each other out, how can one still believe in the story of creation as presented in the Bible? If god gave us brains to use, why not use them? Is it so hard to believe that the Bible creation story is really any different than any other creation story from the old days of mankind? One has got to remember when all of these stories were made, so far in the past when man had no idea as to what was happening in the world he lived in. To keep believing in a story that has the world and life on it only being some 6,000 years old, come on, get real. To believe that the creatures that live on the earth today were the creatures god made at the creation and deny all of the proof of the past life we have found, really is beyond my comprehension as a human being.

Pain of belief

Just posted  at blogher and got to thinking about what I had to say about christian hypocrisies and a person I knew many years ago who went to therapy because she had big problems with her faith and what she felt and wanted to do. Now this young woman was brought up as a Catholic and believed all of the things she felt and wanted to do would condemn her to Hell. The world in the late 60’s and early 70’s was the time of hippies and free love and free thought, time to question everything there was about the life we were living. She wanted to be free to partake of this new world, but she felt so bad every time she did that it was driving her crazy with guilt. I always thought one was supposed to feel good about believing in a god, but here was just one case where belief caused pain. I know there are many more people like her out there in the world, for I have met many, shall we call them ex-catholics, who gave up that belief system for one reason or another. Most did not stop believing in a god, just the one the Catholics were pushing. I am glad to say that I keep hearing little tidbits that the Catholic Church is starting to open up its thought pattern about the world.

I just had a thought on the pain of belief. I knew my mother for 40 years and I never knew what she believed about god or gods, the subject never came up that I can remember. But when I joined the Navy at 17 and she had to sign the papers saying I could, she put down that my religion was one of the christian faiths. I do not remember which one, but I did ask her why she did that. She said that it just seemed like a good idea so no one would bother me about our lack of religion. I guess she did not want me to feel any pain of religion by not having any. Strange that while in boot-camp, going to religious services was mandatory for all. I wonder if I had had no religion on my papers if I could have gotten out of it? As it was, by taking the watch for others who wanted to go, I only had to go twice in the 3 months I was there. Odd as to why I remember that. I guess my personality disorder was active then and (hell it was from birth really) getting out of having to something I did not want to do meant something to me.

I do not know what happened with the young woman I was talking about, I hope she resolved her problems and lived a happy life one way or another. But I brought it up to show that having faith in the fairytale of god and gods is not always a good thing for some people.

Church

When I was 5 years old,I went to church for the first time with some neighbors children. I sat though the long sermon and then went to the Sunday school with my friends. When I left that day,  I knew it was all a big lie. A story made up but didn’t know why it so, I just knew it was. Now some 56 years later I am trying to tell people the reasons why I do not believe the story. And I did spend many years checking out this religious thing that people have. With the information available out there in the world, I am amazed that anyone still believes in any religion what so ever. We might as well still be believing that the world is flat. And yet every Sunday people still go to the church of their choice and keep believing in the same old story. I just keep wondering why? Just what proof do people need to see the truth of the world? How hard can it be to turn ones mind on? I guess believers are like children who hide their eyes and believe they can not be seen just because they can’t see others that way.

Sad state of affairs if you ask me. Every year people teach their young children to believe in a fairytale and most likely tell them they will go to Hell if they do not believe. And they must believe as the parents do, not as others do. We keep teaching our young hate, fear, prejudice, and so many bad things about people who do not believe as we do, do not live as we do, who do not think like we do or look like we do. And by WE  I mean each and every group out there in the world who has a belief system that says they are the chosen or best people for whatever reason they pick. And the saddest part of it to me is that main religions in the world all come from the same place, which says we all started from just two people, so we are cousins, all equal, all the same. Yet why does this not seem to matter any more? Did god some how split into many different gods? With the amount of different religions and sects within those religions, it would seem that was what happened. Have got to wonder just what Christ and Mohammed would think about the churchs that carry on their teachings in this day and age. I think they would not be happy with what is going on.

I have read the Koran and what I see happening with the Muslims is not what I thought the Koran said to be doing. I am talking about the jihad types, not the others. I have read the the New Testament and have to wonder just where and when did Christians leave the path he taught? Why is it that with evey good thing that comes along and then gets a following, the leaders always change it to suit their own needs and ideas? Once many years ago I was into yoga and sort of followed a yogie fellow. He was dead by the time I started to learn his ideas, but was going to seminars taught by his group of followers. I noticed that all of the followers in his group had suits on under their orange robes, not giving up the worldly possions is what I saw. The yogie also taught his ideas for free, yet here Iwas having to pay to learn, and if I wanted the real inside stuff, I couldn’t learn it unless I paid through the nose for it. It was as I call it now, enlightenment through money, of, no payee, no learnee. I won’t call this group a church, but it is not really any different. if you want to move up in your church, just pay out your money and you will rise. Money, the root of all evil, yet every church asks you for some, give till it hurts I have heard said. Why would a god need money? Gods do not, only churches do.

Hell?

Just when did god create hell? It was not in the beginning, just heaven and the earth were according to Genesis. Just where was god if there was no heaven? After all we are taught that is where god is, so again where was god before he has a place to call home? And why does there have to be place we call hell? God wasn’t good enough in creating all his things and needed a place to put the rejects? Satan, I am guessing that god made the angels or were they the other gods god was jealous of? Any how if god made the angels, how come his best creations or his first I guess rebelled against him? Seems god made a mistake here, the people he created also seem to keep rebelling, another mistake, guess we do need a hell to put these rejects in, there are so many of them. Of course regarding the people sent to hell, just how many is god sending as opposed to how many are sent by each different sect of gods religions. After all I believe my way and of course I am right so you all are going to hell if you disagree, right? Guess we are all going to hell, after all we are all right so all others are wrong and god will punish all wrong thinkers. What arrogance mankind has why must every group think they are the best there is? Why would any group be better than any other? If a god made us all, then all are equal and the same. Is that not what is meant by all are equal in the eyes of god? If all are equal then all are going some sort of hell, for no person is perfect. Most of the ideas of hell come from Dante book, people just love to believe the worst without ever checking the facts of truth. Judge not least you be judged, which is what people do all the time, never really thinking of what may or may not be true. So more people for the hell they believe in. Would a truly loving and forgiving god really send his people to such a place? Just because there are people who mistreat children, must the god and gods we made up do the same? I once asked religious leader to show me just where the story of devil was in the bible, he wouldn’t or couldn’t do it, I have always wondered why? Guess he didn’t want his belief questioned. Lost a girl friend once because I didn’t believe in her god, yet she knew nothing about the Bible and what was really in it, she was one of those who believe without knowing why and never questioned the idea at all.

So which came first, Hell or Satan? If Satan was a good angel in the beginning, there was no need for a Hell. If the all knowing god new Satan was going to rebel and had Hell waiting, well why wait, just create hell with Satan already in it. But then why create evil at all? But god created man in “OUR image, after OUR likeness” which tells me that there are more than one god around, which also makes one think that the gods were also good and evil to start with. “Behold the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil”, Us, again gods are mentioned. Gods knowing good and evil, why would gods  need to be good or evil? Makes the gods sound like they are just normal people after all, gee maybe that’s why the gods were made in mans image, cause they were made up by mankind. The arrogant people who think they are the best thing on this world, the ones who thought the whole universe was made just for them. The ones who believed the Sun revolved around the Earth, the Earth their god made just for them. And these people are the ones who thought the earth was flat and would punish any who said different, are the ones we still choose to believe when the idea of a god is being taught.  Maybe we need that Hell after all, for we need a place to put the children who refuse to grow up and learn the truth of the world.

The Devil 1

I keep hearing that the best trick of the Devil is in getting people to not believe in him. Well I would think the best trick the Devil could do is to get people to believe he is a religious leader, like the Pope, or any of the big names in  Christianity. Just think of the evil done to other people in the name of God or Christ, were these the work of good god fearing people or followers of the Devil?  Not a hard question for people who think, but try to get a hard core believer to ponder the thought might be very hard. Once knew a fellow who had this answer to anything about God or Christ, “God said it, the Bible quotes it and that ends it”.  No room for thought there, to bad that fellow didn’t know that the Bible is nothing more than a collection of stories or books that the Catholic Church put together. The Bible is and was just the stories they thought would fit what they wanted the people to believe in. Nice to have the power to make your religion go just the way you want it do. Back when this was done, most people didn’t know how to read or have access to the books to choose what they may have wanted to believe in. The Catholic Church forced its dogma down the throats of the people. Believe or be excommunicated and condemned to Hell, not much of a choice. Believe or be considered a hieratic and suffer torture or burning at the stake, both good ways to get people to follow the church. And this was considered the Christian way to be? Sounds more like what a devil would come up with. Sounds like not Heaven on Earth but Hell on Earth. We may not burn people any more for their difference of opinion in religion, but we still kill and use different forms of torture. We desecrate the temples, churches and mosques of people just because they have a different beliefs than we do. Is this not the work of what a devil would want people to do? So did the Devil get his way by making people believe they were doing good with all of these evil ways in the name of some god or gods?

god and killing

Thou shall not kill. Turn the other cheek. An old and new testament ideas. But what good are they? Israel fought a war killing people to get a country for themselves, so much for Thou shall not kill. The Catholic church fought several wars against the Muslims in the crusades, so much for for Thou shall not kill and Turn the other cheek. Europe in the dark and middle ages was always at war with each other and they were Christian countries, again so much for those two rules of their religion. The hypocrisy of religion should be enough for people to realize that the words and beliefs mean nothing. If the rules set forth cannot be followed by the leaders, why should anyone follow those leaders? Why would anyone want to follow a leader who lies? Only mindless sheep would could be led. Which is what religious leaders want. Don’t question, just follow. Be a lamb in my flock and I will led you where I want you to go.

I find it hard to believe that there are so many mindless people in the world. Religions seem to really want no one to think or question. Are the leaders of Religions afraid that if their flocks think and question they will lose their power over them? If they lose their power, what will they do for a living then? People with power are always afraid of losing that power, it is what makes them and without it they are nothing. Most will do just about anything to keep their power and quite a few have as history shows. Still in spite of history being there for us to learn from, people keep doing the same old things over and over again. Religion being one of the best at keeping people ignorant and not letting its followers learn new ideas and ways of living with others in this world.

Today we as a country are fighting a religious war and the little minded people keep it going at street level. Just why should you hate another just they don’t believe as you do? I bet if you ask these haters why, they really could not give a good answer. Why, because they haven’t really thought about what it is they think. They just do like sheep being led. And all they really do is keep the world and their hometowns from knowing peace. To kill in the name of a god, why can’t an all powerful god do its own killing?  Because there is no god, or no god who would really want us to kill each other. No religion has killing others in it as the thing to be done. So there is no real justification for killing in a gods name. But mankind seems to need to kill and will find any reason it can to justify that need. After all if you kill all of those who disagree with you, you end up being right, as might makes right, right?

god evolves

Ok take the old testament, we have a jealous god, vengeful and almost just plain mean to any who wont do what he wants. This is the Jewish god of old.  Still got to wonder how the first two people did wrong and the the first two kids did wrong and the world fills with wrong thinking people, even after god kills almost every human on Earth with a flood and the ones who popluate the world after that also do wrong again. Somehow god did not make his creation right it would seem. So after giving up and saying he wont kill us all again with another flood, he for some reason evolves into a loving god who forgives all by having his son killed by a slow tortuous death. Hell of a way to get people to follow the new idea. Lets kill just one more painfully and then we will not to that anymore. Does anyone really think that word of mouth is the best way to spread a new religion? Well it did work very well, I guess. But still to this day we have people who wanted a different message than the one Christ put forth, so alongs come Muhammad and another version of god and what god wants is born. We have another evloution of god, strange how mankind keeps making the idea of a god fit just what they want. In every religion god is as mankind  thinks he should be. God just keeps evolving to fit everybody, to bad people can’t evolve to fit everybody.

So now we have three religions that all believe in the same one god. Or at least the same basic one god and we have hatred between the different religions who want to believe that their version is the right and only true religion. And they will kill to prove it is true, fight wars over the so called truth. Hell even within each religion they cannot get one real version that they will all agree on. So just why would one single god let so many different version of itself exist? If it really wanted people to know the truth it would let all mankind know at once and put a stop to all the fighting and killing it its name. Unless of course it enjoys the fighting and killing. Making the whole world a joke for its amusement. Not a hard thought to have seeing what has and is going on in the world. But that is not the thought I came here to present.

Back to peoples views of god and gods. Seems most people have a very narrow space in which their gods exists, no room for other views. Why do they think that their view is right and all others are wrong? Would a god who gave the choice of free will to its creation really be mad if the people used what god gave them? Would it not be against god to not use that free will and go where it led them? After all if we are supposed to be made in gods image and I dont think that includes the bodies we have (if god is a male entity, what use would he have for sexual organs if there is only one of him?)  but the mind we have is that image. An all knowing god would expect its creation to grow and learn. After all people say we are his children, do we not expect our children to grow and learn? Should we expect less of a god than we do of ourselves? It would seem that god and gods are always just the what the narrow minded people make them to be. Not the other way around. God and gods are make in the image of mankind. It would seem a simple thought to make to me. I made it, why cannot others do the same. Why can’t all mankind make this same simple thought and out grow their fairytale stories? Why because mankind is still thinking and behaving like children and need their bogeyman to keep them in line. Be bad and the bogyman will get you. God and gods are just that, bogymen. Do wrong in gods eye and you will go to Hell. God and gods were created by simple minded people back mankind did not what the world was or how it worked, We do now, so now is the time to evolve god and gods into the history books that tell of what we as people belived in the old days. Just like we do and did with all the old god and gods we once had all over the world.

Just start thinking and it all falls into place. It is not a hard concept to follow. It just take some bravey to say no, I will not blindly follow without thinking. I am not a sheep, I am a human being and have a mind and I will use it. Do you have a mind? Do you use it or are you one of the sheep who doesn’t need to think and be a grown up?

a god mistake?

Ok lets look at Cain and Able. The first children in the world. Here we have a case of jealousy that ends in death. Well god has jealous feelings and man was made in the image of god so if Cain was being like god in his feelings where is it wrong to be god like. We can’t have a god who says “Do as I say, not as I do”, it just wouldn’t be fair. But then god never is fair.  A fair god would not punish someones children unto the 3rd, 4th or 5th generation for something done by a parent. Kind of hard to want to worship a god if you were born to be punished for something you didn’t do. We as a people today would not allow a parent to act this way with children. But I wander off the subject of Cain and Able. So god favors Able, didn’t god think that this would make Cain jealous? Once again the all knowing didn’t know, or it was his plan to have Cain kill Able? If so Cain did what he was supposed to do, and if you do what god wants, how can you be in trouble for it?

People are always saying that god has called someone who has been killed. So if that soul was called to god, is the killer a bad person for sending the called one to god? Hard to decide just what is right and wrong in looking at the will of god this way. After all god has killed lots of people, the Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah just to name two mass killings. Does that make god a psychopathic mass murderer? After all if any person did those things we would put them in jail or execute them. Again “Do as I say, not as I do” kind of thing. It is alright for a god to kill but not his followers. A double standard, no wonder man (not mankind, well mankind too) has one. Just think of all the preachers and priest who do just what they preach against. Just how are the people to follow when their god and religious leaders do not follow the so called rules?

Back to Cain who leaves his parents and go to Nod where he knew his wife. Ok not the first to ask this question nor will I be the last, but just where did the wife come from. If there are other people where did they come from? One of them other gods god is jealous of bring them forth like god did with Adam and Eve? God created Adam and Eve, no one else. Adam and Eve had only two children or at least the bible mentions no others. One cannot believe the story of Genesis hook line and sinker. Any person with a basic thought pattern should have said NO this is not a real thing. Is life so scary to people that they need this fairytale  in order to keep them going in this world? Are we still as dumb as the cavemen who didn’t know their world, yet?

Have we not learned enough about how the world works and its wonders to know the truth when it is right in front of us? Or are too many people just like the priest during the darkages and will not let any truth be heard because it would take away their belief system?  I see a billboard every time I come home from town that asks “Are they making a monkey out of you?”. I have to ask why is it up there, do they really think that will make people change their minds? Also I want to know do they (the ones who put up the billboard)  really want to be made into sheep? After all monkeys at least seem to think and sheep do not. But that is what religous leaders want, non thinking followers. After all do they not call their followers a flock and themselves sheperds? Sheep, strange term to use, think of fleecing, not only for wool but the word is also used to describe taking money from people and preachers seem to do a lot of that.

Well enough ideas to think about for today.

god was thinking?

In the beginning we are supposed to have just people, Adam and Eve. Inocent people who know no evil stuff. Sounds good doesn’t it. But I have a question or two about this good and evil stuff. Where did evil come from if there was only god around? How can there be good or evil if there is only one thing in the universe? Who was to judge if anything was good or evil? Did god judge itself? And how would it decide what was good or evil if there was nothing around to do good or evil with? Any how back to Adam and Eve, who are living in the Garden of Eden, where they needed for nothing it seems. Now why did god place a tree of knowledge in the garden and tell them not to eat of it? We as adults know that if you tell a child not to something, they will do it. God didn’t know this? The first two people who knew nothing about right and wrong are given a temptation by an supposedly all knowing god who ought to have know better in the first place and what happens? Of course they did what they weren’t supposed to do. Who really is at fault here? If you don’t want a child to mess with something, don’t put it where they can get to it. Did god need to put that tree in the garden? I think not. Just think what might have happened if it wasn’t there. A world full of naked happy people. Of couse I have to wonder if the garden would have been big enough to hold a world full of people. And that thought I have never heard anyone ever wonder about.  So what do you think, was god wrong to place that tree in the garden? Did the all knowing god know what would happen? If there is a plan for mankind according to many, then it was supposed to happen. If was supposed to happen why punish Adam and Eve for doing what was planned? Seems like they did just what god wanted, shouldn’t they have been rewarded for following the plan? And if there wasn’t a plan, couldn’t god just have started over and do it right the second time? If god is all knowing, just how did god make a mistake in the first place? So many questions? No answers. Again I have to wonder just how come so many people believe in this story as being true.

Knowing what we know about the breeding of animals, we know that if the same two animals and their off spring keep inbreeding the aminals will get to weak to support a viable stock. Mankind is an animal, so if it wont work for the rest of the animal world, it wont and doesn’t work for mankind and yet so many people still believe we started from Adam and Eve. Again a knowing god would have know this, but didn’t seem to know did it?  I will leave you with that thought for now.

gods

Gods? Well according to the Bible there are if you believe it to be word of God. In the Ten commandments one of them is “You shall have no other gods before me”. Ok got to ask, what other gods? If there is only one god, you can’t have other gods. If there are other gods, you can’t have one god. Simple thought, not hardly even logic, yet if a God tells you, you can’t have others, guess that god knows what he/she/it is talking about and that is OTHER GODS.

Also in the Ten Commandments, and I will make it a short version, “You shall not make any graven images—-for I the Lord your God am a jealous God—“. Ok you get the idea, now why should or would a single god need to get jealous? What is there to get jealous of?  Sounds a little insecure to me. Well maybe God is insecure, after all there are them others gods you can’t have before Him. Mankind out grew them so called other gods, Odin, Ball and more that I cannot think of at the moment, when will mankind out grow this one god idea?

Gee we will still have enough to hate and kill each other with without religion being here. Hell we got nationalism, politics, racism,  aren’t these enough for us?  I will get into those subjects at other time.
